George D. Yancopoulos, MD, PhD, is Regeneron’s President and Chief Scientific Officer. In 1989, he joined Len Schleifer, MD, PhD, to launch Regeneron. George has been driven by science his entire life. He began his education at the Bronx High School of Science, received his MD and PhD from Columbia University and went on to become the 11th most highly cited scientist in the world in the 1990s. In 2004, he was elected to be a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Yancopoulos, together with key members of his team, is a principal inventor and developer of Regeneron's six FDA-approved drugs, as well as its foundational technologies, including the Trap technology, VelociGene® and VelocImmune®.

The Bench to Bedside Initiative (BBI) is supported in part by Weill Cornell Medicine Dean's Entrepreneurship Lab and builds teams around patented technologies at Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University. This September we are starting 12 week seminar series “From Bench to Bedside: Business Fundamentals for Entrepreneurial Scientists”. The program aims to educate and mentor scientists from these universities about the fundamentals of starting and building a company in the healthcare industry. The end goal is to help these inventors turn their intellectual property into feasible businesses. The program will finish with a Pitch Day event in mid-December. Today BBI unites scientists from these medical universities and professionals in NYC interested in entrepreneurship and/or venture capital in the life sciences. BBI's mission is to provide scientists in the community with the tools needed to translate their ideas into commercial products that will benefit patients.
